Establishing An Internet Identity
Once you have completed researching the opportunities made available to your organization by the Internet and decided to establish an Internet presence, you then must deal with the technical issues related to Internet publishing and Internet access. Many issues will be resolved by your computer hardware and software vendors, but some require your consideration before any upgrades should occur.
The first issue to consider is establishing an Internet “address.” Just as your business has a physical address so that customers can locate it, so too must it have an Internet address. Similarly, if your employees have their own telephone extensions, they must also have their own e-mail accounts. Such Internet addresses are derived from the Internet identity you establish for your business.
Three options for establishing an Internet identity are available:
-
hosting your own domain;
-
sub-leasing a domain name; and
-
virtual domain hosting
